This game used to be great back in 2007 and around that time but almost all the interesting players quit and the player base has been declining since day 2660, which was in 2009. The world is too big for the 300 players that are left in 2023, and about 30% of the players are Polish, so there's about 130 players who have their accounts set to English. Of course many players play in more than one language, but there are 25000 buildings in the game, and hundreds, maybe even thousands of locations. If a town has 20 characters, it's considered big.

While Cantr has a lot of features, lots of craftable items and the core mechanics work, the game suffers from stagnation and lack of goals. Every character is supposed to have their own plans set by the player. Back in the old days, you could be an explorer but now the whole world has been mapped. Or you could be a resource runner, well now all the major towns have huge stock piles of resources left behind by dead characters. Nobody needs anything because resources and items do not leave the economy enough. The game could benefit from building collapses and fires. The map also needs to be smaller. Nowadays they have Genesis, which is a smaller playing area where you can speak any language.

Back in the old days, there were wars, pirates and militaristic groups. Nowadays everybody is too afraid to hurt someone's feelings and there's no need to use violence, when every newspawn can be handed keys to a vehicle and a full set of tools and clothes as long as they're not a total jackass. The game is lacking villains, so there's no threat. There used to be islands that were so full of animals that you could actually die, but not anymore.

It could be a good game if all the empty buildings and unused vehicles were deleted, map made smaller, resource stockpiles reduced and if there were over 1000 players instead of 300. But how do you get players to play when all the goals are already met? It's like being handed a crossword puzzle where all the spaces are filled out in ink.

There has been great improvements on the games even though it goes more realistically. It’s pretty enjoyable when you come across other role players as in character and it’s pretty fun honestly when we all interact and socialize. There has been issues before but the staffs do work hard to situate it out very well and I love how they work at it to keep the place fun and peaceful for everyone. They even go on to listen to any suggestions that others want to input in which I also love how open minded they are. I really do recommend this game if you want to start out. Sometimes depending on where your character spawns then you can get active responses or not it just varies overall. :)

Incredibly large world, didn't age well. Roleplay is near non-existent these days and slower then a snail. The few bits of roleplay I did find was the creepy sorts into erp to an incredibly gross degree or potato farming sorts who don't roleplay at all. Filled with an old community clinging to the shambles of a game. Used to be something great, but in time fell to ruins.

The is quite fun and understandable. It's fun with how much wider the game goes with more than one country playing. The community really knows how to open up and make you feel welcomed. It is very fair with the character slots which makes you feel glad for the amount of slots given. The time difference is huge, but it is fair for other people around the world since time zones are indeed different. This is also more real life with a great amount of animals put into it with more fun interactions with the animals and people around. I would highly recommend playing it.

There may be some confusing functions at first, but if you really role play into it then it is fun. There have been great improvements into the game with new things to discover and have fun with. There are 15 character slots which I find very fun other than just 3-5 amount of character slots to have. There are still more to come to the game which I hope to see great changes that occur. A lot of hope and fun into this game. Giving it a try is worth it!

Due to a poor UI and confusing mechanics, Cantr hasn't aged well. It was the father of all roleplaying-focused PBBGs, and so it is to be respected, but the world is so full of objects and quiet people farming 1,000 potatoes that it's hard to know what exactly one should be doing.

Still, I have learned to appreciate it. It's a complex society simulation with what is honestly only minor technical support of roleplay. I have the best experience on my Genesis character. The small scale of the Genesis world and playerbase makes for some meaningful interactions from time to time. My other character in the main instance does have trouble getting people to awaken and finding inspiration to RP in general.

I think it's worth checking out, but the green/outdated UI takes a while to get used to.

Cantr is an awesome, full role mandatory, world persistent, browser role playing game.

Here, in this distopic and totally strange and new fantasy world, everything you can see or interact with has been created by some character, controlled by some player. A spoon, a book, a building, a ship. Even the maps have been drawn by some real players, with their measures and distances, their information and colors, everything recompiled through years of explorations and information shared from one to another.

History, culture, and even religions. Clans, families, or guilds. Lots of stories and tons of fictional lives passed through this game in its more than 10 real life years of existence. Here, the only npcs are the animals, and there is no real magic.

While the game's pace is rather slow, designed keeping in mind the time difference between players from all around the world, it's community outside the game is cozy and eager to answer doubts about the game or discuss about everything at all.

A great and immersive game that really encourages people to play their role in up to 15 different characters per person, where you can develop them as far as you want.
