Rated Marosia a 2/5 on March 08, 2023

There's a lot to love about Marosia that's hindered by the development team, the owner, and what many players see as favoritism throughout the community. My feelings on corruption, favoritism, and other such topics have been discussed to death by other posters, so I'm going to bring light to something different.

Now, let me start by saying that I genuinely enjoy the game, and I'm here from a place of love rather than hate.

Marosia is in the enviable position of being a fresh look on PBBGs of its type. It's difficult to find a fully roleplay-centric PBBG that enforces this play style and tries to keep stories flowing smoothly throughout in one big, beautiful sandbox. I'd say that Marosia does this in spades, and I haven't seen many complaints about the sandbox that has been designed for everyone to play in. Anyone can take part, regardless of their writing prowess, as long as they stay in character, and this is a very good thing.

No, the real problem arose when the new owner and lead developer took the reins and the game began to degrade as staff size grew, allowing the project focus to go awry. It's sad to see such an excellent game and so many wonderful writers being held hostage by a team of developers, loremasters, and moderators this way, but sadly that's the case.

In my time playing, I'd never seen Marosia go down for such long spans of time so frequently. Under the previous developer, the server might go down for maintenance now and then, but never due to hurt feelings, the need for the staff to "take a break from the game," or for other selfish reasons. This shows a blatant disrespect for the time of their players, the ongoing stories they've written, and their love for the game.

So now you'll see the average player suffer needlessly while the staff take a week-long break every month because they're too tired or stressed to leave the game running in a seamless fashion. This is ridiculous.

This would all be well and good if the game wasn't being supported by Patreon donations. You have people who love your game, want to see your game improve, and want to contribute through monetary gifts, and yet here you are spitting in the face of your eager players and telling them that you need to break the flow and immersion of your game for an entire week out of every month because it's too much for you and your bloated team to handle every month.

It's just sad. Marosia is a wonderful game that's full of wonderful players who write equally wonderful stories. I've met and formed so many lasting friendships through this game, and it sickens me to see the route the administration is taking. All I can hope for is that someone will make a game similar to this one, borrowing Marosia's interesting concepts while shedding all of the emotional baggage this new regime brought with it.
